Board and Staff

Open Inn is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization established in the State of Arizona. The Executive Director directs the organization’s administration and reports to Open Inn’s Board of Directors, which is comprised of community professionals and parents.

DAVD NICOLETTI, PRESIDENT
David is a graduate of the University of Buffalo, NY, and has been a pharmacy owner/operator since 1977. He has a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Buffalo, is a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, and a Doctor of Natural Medicine. He is a Fellow in the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, and the American College of the Apothecaries. He is a member of APhA, and NCPA. He is currently the President Elect of IACP, as well as a member of the IACP Public Affairs Committee. He has owned and operated Prescription Lab Compounding Pharmacy, a successful compounding only pharmacy, specializing in nutrition, age management, hospice, pain management, and veterinary medicine, since 1996. He and his wife Diane reside in Tucson, Arizona.

KIRSTEN COOPER, SECRETARY
Kirsten has been in Tucson since 1988. She attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a degree in Media Arts. She was hired the next day at KGUN, channel 9 and worked her way up to Director. She met her husband at the U of A in 1990, was married in 1996 and has 2 small children. She’s a now a personal trainer who runs her own business at home, so she can be home for her family. Being a parent she realizes the importance of a child having a safe place to go whether the child is having problems communicating at home and need a time out, being abused, neglected or has been left homeless. Kirsten is active in the planning of Open Inn’s Annual Luncheon.

LUCINDA ABRIL
Lucinda recently retired after serving the City of Tucson for 29 years.  26 of those years were spent in the Community Services Department where her skills and expertise in Federal Grant Administration resulted in significant improvements to the City’s Public Housing and Section 8 Housing Programs.  During her tenure she worked closely with non-profit organizations to deliver quality services to low and moderate-income families and individuals.  This experience combined with her special interest in homeless services led to her most notable accomplishment.  Since 1996, Lucinda worked tirelessly with the Tucson Planning Council for the Homeless to secure additional funding and further develop the continuum of services for Tucson’s most vulnerable citizens.  Lucinda’s continued interest in homeless services and her compassion for children have brought her to Open Inn where she hopes to use her skills and experience to support the agency’s work and further develop its potential.  

SONJA BURKHALTER
Sonja has been the Executive Director of Northland Family Help Center since May 2005. Prior to this position Sonja was the Program Director for the Alternatives Center for Family Based Services, a satellite program of Tucson-based Open Inn, Inc. Residing in Flagstaff since 1998, Sonja has over 14 years experience working in human services. She has worked with adults with developmental disabilities, children in a day care setting, high-risk/at-risk youth, detained and adjudicated youth, and women survivors of domestic violence. Raised in northeast Pennsylvania, she holds a BA in Psychology from Lycoming College and a MA in Education from Lindenwood University.

SONIA MCREYNOLDS
After 21 years, Sonia McReynolds retired from Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital in 1999 and now enjoys competitive running and spending time with her husband and 18 year-old son.  She is active in the community and, since 2003, has coordinated a group of volunteers at Most Holy Trinity Parish who prepare 450 meals for homeless people every month.  She also volunteers with healthcare, civic service, congregational, and sports organizations in Southern Arizona.  Her deep roots in the community, charismatic personality, experience, and compassion for Arizona’s youth and families provide valuable insight and leadership for Open Inn.

ERIC OXMAN
Eric considers himself a native of Tucson, having lived here since the age of 1. He has attended school in Tucson from kindergarten, up through a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Arizona. He has been married to his lovely wife, BJ, since 2004, and they have no kids yet. In 1996, Eric started Rillito Mortgage & Investment, a residential and commercial mortgage company. In 1998, Eric expanded into real estate investment, and then into real estate development in 2003.

Eric has been on the board of directors for Open Inn since 2000, and was the board president from 2003-2007. He is also a member of Tucson Sunrise Rotary.

BRAD ROACH
Brad Roach is the founder of Roach Law Firm, a busy private law practice in Tucson.  Brad is an alumnus of the University of Arizona where he obtained Juris Doctorate of Law and Masters of Economics Degrees.  He has served as Deputy Pima County Attorney where he was active in prosecuting domestic violence crimes, sexual offenses, and crimes against children in Pima County.  Mr. Roach also serves as adjunct faculty at the UA College of Law, is active in the State Bar of Arizona, volunteers with the Battered Immigrant Women’s Project, and is founder and acting Board Member of the non-profit philanthropic organization, Attorneys Benefiting Children.

Upon being invited to join the Board of Directors, Brad said “I am honored to have been asked to be a part of Open Inn’s Board of Directors.  The work that this organization does is invaluable to our community and helps a population of our kids who are too often overlooked.  I look forward to helping in any way I can to further Open Inn’s goals!”

Open Inn’s Leadership Team

NANCY PANICO, MBA, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Ms. Panico holds a B.A. in Sociology, a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and has been on the staff of Open Inn since 1989. She has nearly two decades of experience working with older adolescents in out-of-home settings and is a respected leader and advocate for homeless and at-risk youth and families in Arizona and throughout the nation. Under Ms. Panico’s leadership, Open Inn has improved both the quality and quantity of services available to vulnerable youth and families in the areas Open Inn serves, particularly rural areas in which few alternative resources exist.
