Arizona’s “Working Poor” Tax Credit Means You Can Help Homeless Youth Without Breaking The Bank.

November 18th, 2008

With Arizona’s “Working Poor” Tax Credit, you can receive a dollar-for-dollar credit, up to $200 for singles or $400 for married couples, on your state income taxes while helping homeless youth – at no additional cost to you!  In fact, you may earn a return on our investment if you qualify.

Since your donation is Federally deductible and the State of Arizona may reduce your tax burden by 100% of the amount of your donation, you could actually save on your Federal taxes and direct up to $400 of your State of Arizona tax liability into your own community!  Even in today’s tough economic times, thanks to the “Working Poor” Tax Credit, you can make a holiday contribution to Open Inn and make a difference in the lives of Arizona’s youth and families this year without breaking the bank.

The “Working Poor” Tax Credit may be taken in addition to the public and private school tax credits so you can make a contribution to Open Inn and receive the Arizona “Working Poor” Tax Credit while continuing to make a qualifying contribution to the local school of your choice!

How Does It Work?

1) Establish a baseline year and amount for charitable deductions (as early as 1996).  The credit is figured on the amount given over and above the baseline amount.

2) Make a tax-deductible donation to Open Inn by December 31 (mailed donations must be post-marked by December 31 in order to be eligible for the tax credit.

3) Itemize your charitable deductions on Federal Schedule A, including this donation for a Federal Tax deduction.

4) Your “add back” is done on Arizona Schedule A (Arizona will not permit you to take this as both a deduction and a credit).

5) Complete Arizona Tax Forms 321 and 301.

6) On Page 1 of Arizona Form 140, you may take a dollar-for-dollar tax credit.

7) The State of Arizona will reduce the amount you owe in State taxes, up to $200 for singles or $400 for married couples.
